BOXING TRADITION

MEXICO has countless boxing champions and is considered a power in the sport at the professional level, specially in the lighter weights. Cities as Tijuana, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Merida, Mexicali, Los Mochis and provincies such as Sonora, Estado de México, and Durango has been cradle of brave people with champion breed.

Except for the heavy weight, MEXICO has produced professional champions in ALL the divisions.

In Olympics, MEXICO has gained 12 medals in Boxing, more than any other sport.

Boxing has given Mexicans more satisfactions than Football or Baseball, the other two popular sports in the country.

RUBEN OLIVARES
Considered as one of the best bantamweigth of all times, Olivares is one of the most popular Mexican fighters of the past century.
He is member of the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Won 88 times, 77 by KO.




JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ
Considered as one of the best boxers pound by pound, and also the most popular Mexican boxer (there is a movie with his biography). During his golden times, he was able to paralyze Mexican cities. Some of his fights were epic, including the one against Meldrick Taylor (for some experts the fight of the 90´s decade). In 1993, he got the record for most people in one professional fight, with 133,000.

He possess the record for the most championship title fights with 37 and the most defenses of a title with 27.
When he reached 100 fights, he only had 2 losses. He ended his career with 107 wins, 6 losses and 2 ties.
He won 6 titles in three different categories.
He is part of the Boxing Hall of Fame.


 
RICARDO "FINITO" LOPEZ
His kingdown lasted for 9 years with 21 uninterrupted defenses of the title (record for the most uninterrupted defenses without loss).
He finished his career unbeaten (with one polemic tie) and with a percentage of KO´s of 73%. He was the third champion in the history of world boxing to retire unbeaten.
He is part of the Boxing Hall of Fame.




SALVADOR SANCHEZ
He was a champion at the age of 19. Defended his title 9 times, one of them, against Wilfrido Vargas, whose beated by KO.
The died in a car accident at the age of 23, with a promising future.



JORGE "TRAVIESO" ARCE ARMENTA

He is the first Mexican fighter to win titles in 5 different categories, from flyweight to featherweight.

His current record is 64 victores ( 496 by KO), 8 losses and 2 ties.


 JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ

Champion in three different divisions, the "Dinamite" is a counter pouching specialist, known as enemy no. 1 of Pacquiao, who never beaten him convincingly. In the last fight, Marquez gave the perfect punch for the KO of the decade. Marquez has fighted excelent rounds, some of the memorable against Juan Diaz and Marco Antonio Barrera. Still active, his record is 55 victores (40% by KO), 6 defeats, and 1 tie (Apr 2013).






ERIK MORALES

Considered one of the greatest boxers of the last decade, he won titles in four categories, one after his first retirment in 2005. He had extraordinary fights against Barrera and Pacquiao.

Fighted from 1932 to 1961, one of the few boxers that has fought in 4 different decades with an incredible record of 192 victories (114 by KO), 46 losses and 12 ties.

Rodolfo "Chango" Casanova (Leon, Guanajuato) Historial Articulo
Another champion without crown that won 81 fights (51 by KO). He had once single chance for the title, at the age of 19 yrs, and lost in Montreal against Alfondo "Panama" Brown.

Jesus Pimentel (Sayula, Jalisco) Historial.
Despite his record and style, he never got a change to fight a title during the best time of his career. He lost his only chance against Ruben Olivares.
